Reccing Thursday
May. 9th, 2019 07:30 pmI love
snickfic’s suggestion for Reccing Thursday, especially since I’m always meaning to rec more things.
So here are a couple of fics I’ve really enjoyed in this last week:
full bloom by seventhswan
Star Wars Sequel Trilogy
Jessika Pava/Rey, 16k, rated T
Rey saves a life, meets her family, falls in love, grows up, and learns that she doesn't know anything at all. Not necessarily in that order.
I love all kinds of soulmate AUs, and this fic manages to do some nice worldbuilding to fit soulmates into the Star Wars universe. It has one of my all-time favorite takes on Rey’s life on Jakku pre-canon, it has some great original non-human secondary characters, and Jessika (who I know appears in comics, but not any that I have read) is well-developed as a love interest. Highly recommend.
Reconstruction by Jocelyn
Marvel Cinematic Universe
Currently 214k (WIP), rated M
In the aftermath of Civil War, Steve and Bucky and the other fugitive Avengers face a painful past and an uncertain future, while T'Challa assumes the throne of Wakanda and decides his country's place in the world and his own place in the Avengers' world.
A canon-divergent AU right after CA:CW, this fic plays with possible repercussions of the events of the movie without bashing any one character or claiming that anyone was completely right or completely wrong. This is darker than I usually like my MCU fics, and verges on political and legal drama at some points, but I wouldn’t call it dark; it plays with some heavy themes, but it is undeniably a fic about healing and coming back together. It’s definitely not perfect (there are some places where I feel like the author was trying too hard to be topical to RL events; much of it was written before Black Panther was released, so much of the Wakanda in the fic is different from what we now know in canon) but it’s one of the best, if not the best, post-CW fics I’ve read.
I also compiled a list of recs for the May the 4th Exchange.
