Trick or Treat 2024

Dear Creator,
I'm sure I'll like whatever you make for me, so just have fun! I know there are some characters/pairings that have more prompts than others, but that just means I had a lot of ideas for those (or had a past letter to copy & paste from). If I requested a character, I would be happy to see just about anything for them!
I am open to extra treats.
I’m
saiditallbefore on AO3.
For this exchange, I've also included ideas for tricks/treats for each fandom, but don't feel constrained by those! In general, I'm down for most things spooky and creepy, although I prefer if gore and body horror are kept to a minimum, and if there's a downer ending that the audience knows (through implication or just because of where it is set in canon) that it isn't actually the end for the characters in question.
Things I like:
Smut Likes:
Art-specific likes + notes:
I am terrible at art, myself, and am very impressed by anyone who can create fanart. I've tried to provide art-friendly prompts in the relevant canons, but in case those don't work for you, here are a few extra likes:
DNWs:
Fic
Tricks - Ghosts, magic, mystical entities of all kinds... there's a lot of canonical ground to play with here if you want to go supernatural! There's also lots and lots of room for more mundane spooky or creepy themes, if you'd prefer that.
Treats - Snippets of superhero adventures, downtime with any of their respective teams or friends, shipfic, or something on the lighter side of the magical/mystical side would all be great!
Dinah Lance
I love Dinah; she's everything. I love her with the Arrowfam, love her with the JSA, love her with the Birds of Prey, love her on her own. She's a badass martial artist who just happens to have superpowers; she can be prickly and difficult, but she also cares really deeply and she's very protective of the people she cares about. I find it so fascinating that she's a little bit afraid of her own capabilities-- she knows all too well that she's capable of killing people, but that's not the kind of person she wants to be.
If you want to write something shippy, my Dinah ships include Dinah/Ollie, Dinah/Helena, Dinah/Zatanna, Dinah/Shiva
Courtney Whitmore
I love teen girl superheroes almost as much as I love incredibly earnest and sincere characters, and Courtney is both. She makes plenty of mistakes (especially in her Star-Spangled Kid era, when she's trying to prove she can hang with the big leagues), but she's always doing her best. It's also really fun to watch her grow in maturity over her appearances, as she becomes a more seasoned hero! I'd love to see anything with her and the other members of the JSA. Some of her more recent appearances also made me want to see more of her with Emiko Queen and/or Judy Garrick! (I ship her with both of them, but gen is also good.)
Zatanna Zatara
I really love the blend between Zatanna's real magic and her stage magic-- it's a fun contrast and a way of blurring the lines between "real" and "fake". I think the way a lot of her relationship with magic is tangled up in her relationship with her father, and how she has some insecurities stemming from that, are really interesting!
If you want to write something shippy, I ship Dinah/Zatanna (what can I say, Black Canary and Zatanna: Bloodspell did a number on me).
Xanthe Zhou
I love Spirit World and am on a quest to get everyone I know to read it. The whole story is gorgeous, but I especially love Xanthe (of course). I really love their resilience and it's just so much fun to watch them do magic and navigate the spirit world. And in general, I'd love to see more of the spirit world and its other residents, and Xanthe's relationships with them! I'd also love to see them and Constantine ending up on more magical adventures-- they had a fun dynamic, and it was fun to see both of them again recently in BoP. (Maybe include Zatanna, too, if you want to include three completely different types of magic users XD)
If you want to write something shippy, I ship Xanthe/Cass.
Cassandra Cain/Barda Free
I really love their relationship in Birds of Prey (2023). Just look at them! I feel like they just get each other as fellow warriors, which is something that means a lot to both of them. They have this easy kind of friendship and trust, and I can see that easily leading to more.
Beatriz da Costa/Tora Olafsdotter
I've got a mini ship manifesto here for anyone interested. I love them so much; they're both so ridiculous, right up until they're not. They both care so deeply, but Tora lets everyone see how much she cares and hides her strength under that soft exterior, while Bea hides how deeply she cares under a shallow exterior to protect herself-- and they both worry so much about each other! I'd love to see JLI-era adventures or shenanigans, with whatever shippy tropes you want to include. I would also be into something set during the period when Tora's dead-- maybe Bea trying and failing to deal with the feelings she never got to express when Tora was alive? Maybe Tora appears as a ghost? I'd honestly love anything!
Fic
Tricks - Something from one of the loops we didn't see? Or maybe something from the sequel we were teased at the end of Happy Death Day 2? Or maybe it's another time loop and this time, Carter is stuck in it (with or without Tree) and needs her help to figure it out?
Treats - Tree (with or without Carter) finally gets a normal, non-looping day? Or maybe just gets a quiet moment in the middle of one of those days.
Tree Gelbman
Tree is the best kind of character, because she starts out as kind of the worst. She's terrible! She's rude, she's mean, she's selfish, she's self-centered. And then she's forced to confront all of these things about herself as she has to live the same day over and over again (and die over and over again) and she becomes a better person.
Carter Davis/Tree Gelbman
I love that Carter helps Tree become a better person just by being himself. He's just kind of a good person! I really like seeing how quickly he rolls with it when she convinces him she's in a time loop, and how he tries to help, even if he doesn't know how.
Art, Fic
Tricks - The Green is pretty horrifying, and I find The Lady to be one of the the most horrifying kind of villains with her abilities to change people's memories, so feel free to play with that (as long as the reader knows the characters will get their memories back at some point)! I'd also love to see our characters dealing with the supernatural, or with other people who believe in the supernatural (maybe another weird cult/small community?)
Treats - Team Awesome Force getting some downtime or on a simple warrant, rebuilding in Westerley after the war, any/all of Jaq's family members getting to spend time with him, downtime or quiet moments with other members of the extended cast (Zeph, Pippin, Fancy, Pree, Gared, Turin, etc)
Fandom-specific notes: I didn't specifically request any ships for this canon, but if you want to include any, I ship Aneela/Delle Seyah, Dutch/D'avin, Johnny/Pawter, Delle Seyah/Dutch, Aneela/Delle Seyah/Dutch, Dutch/Zeph, Dutch/Pawter
Aneela
She's the devil an entire religion in the Quad sprung up around, and she's not really sorry for anything she's done... but when she finds people she wants to protect, she uses that same single-minded ferocity in their defense. I'm constantly rotating that confrontation between her and Dutch at the end of season 3 in my mind... how she immediately stopped wanting to kill Dutch just as soon as she remembered everything. I love her relationship with Delle Seyah-- how they see themselves reflected in each other, and are attracted to that ruthlessness, and yet somehow are better for it.
Dutch
God, I love Dutch so much. I love that she's a total badass, but she's still just human and there are plenty of threats she can't take out on her own. I love how much she grows emotionally over the series and learns to let people other than Johnny in-- she's still prickly, but she's more willing to let herself get attached to people. I'm also really fascinated by her relationship with Khylen-- the whole show is really good with themes of trauma and abuse, but I really like how Dutch is torn between loving Khylen and hating him, and how her own unresolved issues even eventually threaten to hurt her relationships with Jaq and D'avin. I love her platonic soulmate-ship with Johnny, and how completely non-romantic it is, compared with her slow-growing romantic relationship with D'avin. And I also love the weirdness of her relationship with Aneela! "I was here; I mattered"-- ugh, it's so good!!!
D'avin Jaqobis
I love seeing how much D'avin grows over the series; at the beginning, his trauma from his time in the army really shapes him, but by the end, he's managed to heal and make meaningful connections. I like the way his relationship with Johnny is complicated by their childhood abuse and the different ways it shaped them and the different ways they remember it, and I like how he and Dutch are too similar at first in the ways they run from intimacy and vulnerability to have a serious relationship until they both heal and grow up a little. And I really love how he has to confront himself when he finds out he's going to be a father, and how he chooses to be a good father to Jaq! Actually, I just love his and Jaq's relationship in general (as well as his weird co-parenting relationship with Delle Seyah).
Johnny Jaqobis
Once again, I really love Johnny's ride-or-die relationship with Dutch. It's just so sweet and so much fun, especially concepts like the twoyer. I love his complicated relationship with D'avin, and how much they love each other even when they're mad at each other or don't understand each other. And I think his relationship with Pawter is really sweet, despite how tragically it ends. I feel like out of all the main characters in the show, Johnny is the one who really gets put through the emotional wringer without getting any kind of breather; I'd love to see him a reuniting with the others after he's had the chance to do his own thing and get himself together a little bit, if you want?
Delle Seyah Kendry
Her journey from an out-and-out villain in season one to "I'll never be nice... but I'll try to be good" is just. So good. Like Aneela, she never really softens her sharp edges, but she finds people worth caring about-- primarily Aneela and Jaq. (Both of those relationships are just genuinely very sweet, in their own ways.) I also just love how disgusted she is when she realizes that she and Team Awesome Force are family now. Her and D'avin's very weird co-parenting relationship is a special delight (they can't stand each other, they don't agree on anything, but they trust each other to do anything to protect their son).
Art, Fic
Tricks - There's so much creepiness and horror already built into this world to play with-- maleficers, maw-mouths, the Scholomance itself... feel free to play with any of it! (Just please no permanently bad ends for any of our main characters.)
Treats - Some fluff set during our characters' time in the Scholomance, with that creepy edge that everything in the Scholomance has? Something set after book 3, where we get to see how our characters are working to fix magical society as best as they can?
Galadriel "El" Higgins
I love El so so so much. She's prickly and she's angry and she doesn't like most people, and she has the power to destroy entire civilizations at her fingertips, and she still chooses— constantly chooses, at each juncture— to do good. She's not nice, but she's kind. And I love her journey from hating the system but accepting it as the way things are to actively turning it on its head.
I have so many feelings about her-- about how she has the powers to destroy anything and everything at her fingertips and every single day she chooses not to do that. About how she's angry and unforgiving and not particularly nice, but she's still so capable of kindness, and how she's so cynical about how the world works and she still saves it with the powers of love and friendship (with a little bit of incredible violence backing those up). About that scene in the gym, when an all out war almost breaks out amongst the factions of Scholomance kids, and El singlehandedly puts an end to it by telling them if she wanted them dead, they'd all be dead. About how she doesn't even like most people but how she still chooses to save as many as she can because if she doesn't, that's the path to evil.
And I love how she inspires loyalty in people. It starts so small, when she first becomes Orion's friend and brings Liu and Aad along with her because they're some of the only people who have treated her decently, and it just keeps building. All the moments in the third book when her classmates look to her for help and listen to her and are willing to follow her lead, because they know what she's willing to do for no payback at all? Beautiful.
Feel free to delve into any of her relationships I haven't requested here— her classmates, her little freshman ducklings, her mum, her extended family. I love them all and am absolutely fascinated by them. I'd also love some outsider POV on El; she's terrifying and awe-inspiring and also just very very weird.
Liesel Mueller
Liesel really snuck up on me as a fave-- I didn't think much about her in her first appearances, but by the end of the series I was absolutely in love with her. She's just so pragmatic, but she still gets caught up in El's orbit despite herself. I'd love to see more about her and the London Enclave and what she does next!
Aadhya & Galadriel "El" Higgins & Yi Liu
Like I said above, I really love the way that El brings them along with her when she starts gaining notoriety, because they're some of the only ones who treated her decently before. And I like how surprised they were by that, because they weren't really friends at the time, and they didn't really understand El back then. I'd love to see more moments of their growing friendship during their time in the Scholomance, or more about the three of them after The Golden Enclaves.
Galadriel "El" Higgins/Orion Lake
I really love the two of them, because at the beginning it seems so clear what kind of characters they are: El is the cynical and pragmatic, while Orion is naive and idealistic. And then the more we learn about them, the clearer it becomes that it's not quite that simple-- El is a lot more idealistic than she wants anyone to believe, and holds herself to higher standards than she holds anyone else. And while Orion is naive about some things, it's because he's never thought about them, because in many ways he doesn't care about the same things as other people. And then, we find out why and it's just. It's horrifying and chilling and sad. They cosmically balance each other, but not in the way El thought! I love it and it kills me. I'd love to see anything about them post book 3.
Galadriel "El" Higgins/Liesel Mueller
I liked their relationship in The Golden Enclaves-- it was casual, and mostly physical, but they also really had a good friendship going where they balanced each other out nicely. I'd love to see more, whether it's as casual as it was there or it develops into something more serious. (I kind of headcanon all of them having open relationships and Liesel/El, El/Orion, and Liesel/Alfie as all having relationships, but if you don't want to go that route, I'd be fine with any of the couples being broken up as long as they're still friends.)
Art, Fic
Tricks - You can go in all kinds of creepy directions here, if you want-- Merzost, amplifiers, the abilities of Grisha in general... there's a lot of possibilities! Or if you want to go a more mundane route, both of our girls have been through a lot and have not had time to unpack any of it, so feel free to dive into some of that angst!
Treats - Sparring, heists, adventure, shippy goodness... The possibilities are wide open, as far as I'm concerned!
Fandom-specific notes: I actually love the Darkling, despite how many awful things he did. Feel free to have the characters hate him or have complicated feelings about him or generally talk about his actions and how those actions effected them/Ravka, but keep it to his canonical actions and their canonical feelings about him; don't make extra stuff up.
Mentions of canonical past noncon are okay, but I'd prefer you don't get more detailed than canon.
Inej Ghafa/Alina Starkov
I love that despite her deep trauma, Inej still has so much kindness in her. She's willing to do whatever's necessary to protect herself and her friends, including killing people. I love that she still keeps her faith, despite everything. Honestly, Inej is one of my favorite characters in the whole show; she's such a fascinating mixture of cynicism and earnestness.
Alina is another incredibly earnest character! She's very naive when the show starts out, but even though hardships and betrayal have made her a bit more cynical about people and their motivations, she still really wants to do her best to help Ravka and its people. I also really like her struggles with being tempted by power, by thinking that if she had just a little more she could fix everything.
I really love how much these two admire one another. Inej sees Alina as a Saint, of course, but Alina has been saved multiple times by Inej now and seems to really admire how capable Inej is. Maybe Alina ends up joining the Crows in Ketterdam after season 1, and the two of them grow closer then? Or maybe Inej remains in Ravka for a while after season 2? Or maybe they meet whenever Sturmhond's ship stops in Ravka, and the two of them regularly catch up then?
Art, Fic
Tricks - I'd love to see something spooky with Dathomir or Merrin's abilities, if you go that route! It's my favorite place in the game and so perfect for something Halloween-themed, if you so choose. Or if you want to focus more on Cere, I'd love to see something about her struggle with the Dark Side, her guilt about failing her apprentice.
Fandom-specific note: DNW Cere/Trilla. Please no spoilers for Jedi:Survivor. Any other f/f pairing for the women here is fine, including canon characters or original.
Cere Junda
I really love Cere: her desperation, her desire for redemption, her struggles with the Dark Side. I'd love fic set at any point: during her time as a Jedi, the years after the purge, or after the ending of Fallen Order. What was Cordova like as a Master? How did she find Cal on Brocca? When did she start looking for a Jedi to find the holocron, and how many false leads did she follow before she found Cal? What comes next, now that the holocron is destroyed?
Merrin
First of all, Merrin is a nightsister and that's just really fucking cool. It's incredibly creepy that she can turn her dead sisters' bodies into zombies to fight for her, and also really fucked-up in a way I love. She's the last nightsister, but she's still connected to all of them. I also love how different her connection with the Force is to a Jedi or Sith, and how others react to it. I love her subtle sense of humor, and how even though she has doubts about Cal's mission she's still willing to follow him. I'd love to see where she goes from here, and how she continues to bond with the rest of the crew of the Mantis.

Shadow and Bone

Star Wars: Jedi: Fallen Order
